Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in State College seeks a Division Head for the Computational Fluid Dynamics division. This leadership role oversees a team of engineers and research faculty, guiding CFD research, code development, V&V, and multi-physics applications for DoD and industry sponsors.

The role requires a strong track record in CFD, prior PI experience, and superb leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Engineering or Science plus 10 years of related experience.
• Past success as a Principal Investigator in CFD research.
• Strong research track record in CFD with hydromechanics, hydroacoustics, maneuvering and controls, propulsion.
• Experience managing people with supervisory responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; history of white papers/reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform design and performance analyses using CFD for a broad range of applications.
• Lead technical developments and improvements in CFD tools, methods, and HPC adaptations.
• Provide technical oversight of complex simulations and cross-organizational coordination.
• Handle organizational leadership including recruitment, development, and retention of CFD staff.
