Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University in State College, PA, seeks a Division Head for the CFD Division within the Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Office. The role leads a team of engineers and research faculty to deliver state-of-the-art CFD tools for DoD and industrial sponsors.

The position may be filled as a Research and Development Engineer or non-tenure Research Faculty. ARL supports DoD SkillBridge; eligible for Top Secret clearance; full-time, on-site with possible hybrid

Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline with 10 years of related experience.
Past success as a Principal Investigator in this field.
Strong CFD research track record in hydromechanics, hydroacoustics, maneuvering and controls.
Previous success managing people with supervisory experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with past success in writing white papers or reports.
Current eligibility for access to Top Secret level clearance; government background check may be required.

Responsibilities

Lead and perform design and performance analyses using CFD tools for a broad range of applications.
Lead technical developments in CFD, including code development, V&V, and HPC-oriented applications.
Provide technical oversight of complex simulations and ensure high-quality research output.
Perform organizational leadership to the CFD Division, including personnel management and recruitment.
