Job summary

General Motors seeks a Sr Manager, AV Behavior Safety Engineering to define and lead the strategy for safe autonomous vehicle behaviors powered by AI/ML. You will own the end-to-end AV behavior validation framework spanning ODD, simulation, closed‑course, and public road testing, and influence launch decisions for GM's automated driving products.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
8+ years of experience in machine learning, engineering, data science, or a related field.
8+ years in autonomous vehicle or robotics development or related field.
Demonstrated experience working on production‑intent AV programs.
Track record providing technical safety leadership in AV development.
Deep understanding of AV behavior development and evaluation criteria.
Experience applying AV safety standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

Define GM’s strategy for safe autonomous system development, validation and deployment.
Own the behavior‑focused portion of the ADS Safety Case, including claims and evidence.
Collaborate with Software Validation, Embodied AI, Simulation, and Safety Metrics teams on end‑to‑end validation methodology.
Set strategy for breakdown of ODDs and validation per behavior and per aggregate.
Collaborate on evaluation metrics, human benchmarks, and safety launch targets for AV behaviors and system performance.
Assess AV performance across safety and reliability dimensions using various data sources.
