Group 1001 Insurance in Indiana is seeking an experienced Lead Applications Developer to drive hands-on coding and leadership across a portfolio of applications for multiple member companies. You will own technical decisions, oversee security posture, and ensure regulatory compliance while mentoring a growing team.

The role emphasizes architectural health, quarterly planning, and leveraging AI tools to accelerate delivery in an Agile Jira environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional full-stack software development with progressive responsibility.
• Experience in financial services and/or insurance sector.
• Expert-level TypeScript and Java proficiency.
• Experience with Angular/React/Next.js, Node.js/Express.
• Spring Boot, REST/GraphQL API design and modern tooling.
• Advanced Git workflows and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Terraform and AWS core services knowledge.
• Secure coding mindset — OWASP Top 10/ASVS.
• Technical management experience — leading 4+ engineers.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development in an Agile/Jira environment.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on production code on critical-path work.
• Conduct code reviews and prototype solutions to de-risk initiatives.
• Own the Portfolio Applications as Product Owner including security and compliance.
• Ensure architectural health, DR posture, backups, patching and currency.
• Ensure access, tooling, CI/CD and monitoring are set up and maintained.
• Plan quarterly/sprint delivery and staff assignments.
• Lead or participate in Agile sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
• Vet user stories for technical fitness and dependencies.
• Mentor engineers and drive developer growth.
• Improve cycle time, change-fail rate, MTTR, and CI/CD health.
