Job summary

The Agency Fund is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to design, build, evaluate, deploy and improve AI/ML systems powering NGO platforms and partner apps. You will work with researchers to translate AI research into practical tools, publishing playbooks and frameworks that scale impact for millions served by NGO partners.

You’ll join a small, globally distributed team working asynchronously, shipping rapidly, and contributing to evaluation infrastructure and copilots for field workers and clinicians.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in math, deep learning, LLMs and modern AI systems.
• 4+ years hands‑on ML engineering building end‑user products powered by DL.
• 1–2 years building LLM‑powered apps with production quality.
• Experience evaluating AI systems with solid dataset and eval design.
• Fluency with prompting and context engineering for agentic systems.
• Proficient in Python and hands‑on coding responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to tools like Calibrate, an AI evaluation infra for nonprofits.
• Collaborate with behavioral scientists to translate insights into reusable tools and playbooks.
• Open‑source non‑trivial innovations from in‑kind work.
• Ship fast with rapid development and deployment cycles.
• Document technical decisions and maintain engineering standards across AI components.
• Stay current with applied AI research and bring advances to the team.
• Provide advice to NGOs building generative AI products.
• Mentor NGOs, demonstrating best practices and tooling to staff.
