Job summary

The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI). This role leads student-centered programming, supports academic success, belonging, and community engagement through co-curricular activities and events.

You will oversee a large team and budget, build campus and external partnerships, and advance educational equity for historically marginalized students through strategic planning and program growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing student-focused academic programs, including strategic planning and partnerships.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and managing a team.
  • Fiscal management experience, including grants and funding development.
  • Expert in developing, designing, and managing large-scale events.
  • Experience working across a complex organization with diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to advancing educational equity and opportunity for historically marginalized students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of OAMI's broad portfolio of student programs and services, annual celebrations, and signature initiatives.
  • Set OAMI's vision, priorities, and goals, translating them into clear plans, resource decisions, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a senior team of 10 permanent staff, including associate and assistant directors, plus 60+ student employees.
  • Build strategic partnerships with student organizations, faculty and staff, and external partners, including the State of Michigan.
  • Use student input, program data, and emerging trends to set priorities, evaluate impact, and improve programs and services.
  • Oversee OAMI's budget, staffing, and resource allocation, and pursue grants that sustain and expand the office's work.
