Job summary

The University of Southern Mississippi seeks a Director of Artificial Intelligence for Academic Success to provide strategic leadership for adoption, integration, and responsible use of AI across Academic Affairs.

You will report to the Provost and coordinate with the AI Advisory Board to advance AI literacy, governance, and innovation across teaching, learning, curriculum, faculty development, and student success.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least three years of experience in academic technology, AI, instructional innovation, or related AI‑driven initiatives within higher education.
• Demonstrated experience leading, implementing, evaluating, or governing AI initiatives in a higher education, academic, instructional, research, or organizational setting.

Responsibilities

• Leads development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive Academic Affairs strategy for AI adoption and responsible integration across teaching, learning, curriculum, and student success.
• Provides strategic leadership for the AI Advisory Board and cross‑unit coordination of AI initiatives.
• Pursues external funding opportunities; oversees grant‑funded AI initiatives, including budgeting, compliance, reporting, and outcome assessment.
• Develops strategic partnerships with university units, industry, state partners, MAIN, peer institutions, and other external stakeholders to advance AI initiatives and funding opportunities.
• Monitors AI technologies, policy developments, governance, data stewardship, privacy, and cybersecurity; advises university leadership on impact and governance.
