Job summary

College of the Holy Cross seeks a Director of Applied AI for Academic Initiatives to lead the College's applied AI use in research, teaching, and student development. The role bridges faculty and IT, helping scope viable AI questions, pair them with mentors and tooling, and drive student-led research through the AI Exploration Lab.

The director partners with the Provost’s Office, Learning Design, and Center for Inclusive Excellence in Teaching to shape course design, pedagogy, and responsible AI

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in learning design, instructional technology, education or a closely related field.
• Five+ years of relevant professional experience, including in higher education.
• Demonstrated expertise in learning design with faculty partnership.
• Experience supporting faculty research or scholarly work.
• Familiarity with contemporary AI tools including large language models.

Responsibilities

• Lead applied AI initiatives across research, teaching, learning, and student development.
• Establish and lead the AI Exploration Lab with Provost Office designee.
• Advise on research computing needs, data handling, provenance, and reproducibility.
• Support faculty and staff studying AI impact on student development and co-curricular life.
• Identify and track grant and fellowship opportunities in AI and emerging tech.
• Develop partnerships with peer institutions, funders, and vendors.
• Collaborate with Learning Design and Center for Inclusive Excellence in Teaching.
• Contribute to governance, policy, and horizon scanning for AI at the College.
