Job summary

Mennel Milling Company is seeking a Head Miller to lead the milling department, guiding safety, quality, and efficiency in production. You will develop staff, optimize processes, and ensure compliance with rigorous food-safety standards, contributing to consistent flour quality and customer satisfaction.

The role requires strong leadership, multi-team coordination, and a track record in flour milling. A PCQI certification and ability to wear a respirator are essential, with opportunities for

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in Milling Science, Food Manufacturing, Operations, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a flour milling environment preferred.
• PCQI Certification required.
• Ability to pass a respirator fit test and perform duties while wearing a respirator.
• Strong leadership, team-building, and employee development skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe, efficient milling department operations and develop mill employees to maximize performance and yield.
• Ensure compliance with GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, and other food-safety standards.
• Maintain audit-ready facilities and promote a strong food-safety culture.
• Train, coach, and develop milling staff to ensure accountability and performance.
• Lead EHS compliance and implement maintenance collaborations to minimize downtime.
• Drive continuous improvements in yield, extraction, capacity, and efficiency.
• Set clear performance expectations and ensure finished flour meets specs.
• Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to deliver high-quality products.
• Identify and implement process improvements for safety, quality, and productivity.

What You'll Do

As the Head Miller, you will oversee the safe and efficient operation of the milling department while leading and developing mill employees to achieve maximum milling efficiencies and superior flour quality. You will play a critical role in driving operational performance, maintaining product specifications, and supporting Mennel's food safety and quality initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and directing milling operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production
• Ensuring compliance with GMPs, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, BRC requirements, sanitation programs, and food safety standards
• Maintaining an everyday audit‑ready facility and promoting a strong food safety culture
• Training, coaching, and developing milling employees to maximize performance and accountability
• Ensuring all mill personnel follow corporate EHS policies, procedures, and programs
• Driving unscheduled downtime toward zero through effective equipment planning and parts management
• Partnering with Maintenance to execute preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
• Continuously improving mill yield, extraction rates, capacity utilization, and operational efficiency
• Establishing clear performance expectations and accountability for department employees
• Maintaining ownership of finished flour quality and ensuring products consistently meet customer and company specifications
• Collaborating with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality products
• Identifying and implementing process improvements that enhance safety, quality, and productivity
• Supporting Mennel's Mission, Motto, and Food Safety & Quality Statement
• Performing other duties as assigned

Leadership Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the overall supervision, management, and development of all employees within the milling department, including:

• Employee training and development
• Performance management and accountability
• Safety leadership and compliance
• Department staffing and succession planning

What We're Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's degree in Milling Science, Food Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a flour milling environment preferred
• PCQI Certification required
• Ability to pass a respirator fit test and perform job duties while wearing a respirator
• Strong leadership, team‑building, and employee development skills
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related computer applications
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
