Job Description

Position Overview:

Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a motivated, student-centered leader to serve as Head Men’s Basketball Coach, guiding all aspects of its NCAA Division III men’s basketball program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, integrity, and a commitment to student-athlete wellbeing and success—both on and off the court. This individual will foster an inclusive team environment, support university and athletic department values, and actively contribute to the broader Wentworth community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student-Athlete Recruitment & Development

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies in collaboration with Athletic Department leadership and Enrollment Management to attract and retain qualified student athletes.

  • Support the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes, ensuring a holistic student-athlete experience.

  • Maintaining proper oversight and appropriate discipline of student athletes, student managers and coaching staff when representing the University.

  • Collaborate with Athletics staff, Student Affairs, faculty, and other university partners to enhance the student athlete experience and program success.

  • Program Leadership & Operations

  • Hire, supervise, and develop part-time assistant coaching staff.

  • Organize and lead practice sessions, game preparation, and competitive strategy to optimize performance and outcomes.

  • Manage team scheduling and travel logistics.

  • Oversee the program’s operating budget with fiscal responsibility, including purchasing equipment and team gear.

  • Lead team fundraising efforts to support non-budgeted activities and events.

  • Administrative & Institutional Engagement

  • Attend Athletics department meetings, institutional events, and other campus activities to support a strong presence and engagement within the university community.

  • Serve as a game administrator for select home events as assigned.

  • All full-time head coaches have a secondary duty. Secondary duties are reviewed and assigned each year based on the candidate’s qualifications and seasonal responsibilities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance & Integrity

  • Maintain compliance with all federal and state laws, as well as university, Conference of New England (CNE), and NCAA Division III policies and regulations.

  • Demonstrate professional conduct and integrity in all program operations and uphold institutional values.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 5 years of basketball coaching and leadership experience

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • 3–5 years of basketball coaching and leadership experience at the collegiate level
