Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Temporary/Seasonal (Hours as needed)

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Schedule: Dependent on pool operating hours

Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Class D Driver's License, Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D., American Heart Association Basic First Aid, C.P.R./A.E.D., and W.S.I. (preferred)

Summary: The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works / Recreation Division is hiring a Head Lifeguard to oversee pool operations, staff supervision, maintenance procedures, and assist with swim programs. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, managing staff and patron grievances, maintaining records, and performing lifeguard duties.

Essential Duties Include:

1. Ensure daily schedules, employee hours, and report changes to the Aquatic Director.
2. Maintain pool appearance and safety.
3. Handle grievances and enforce rules.
4. Keep organized records of equipment, supplies, and training.
5. Perform daily opening and closing of the pool.
6. Evaluate staff performance.
7. Test pool safety while on duty.

Qualifications:

• Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent.
• W.S.I. certification (preferred).
• High School Diploma/G.E.D. (preferred) or completion of 11th Grade.
• One year related lifeguarding experience (preferred).
• Knowledge of pool maintenance and customer service (preferred).
