Overview
This is a hands-on Head Professional role at a historic private club. The course and practice facilities support a robust instruction and player-development program. Peak play occurs on holidays, weekends, and league days; the Head Professional is expected to be present on the vast majority of those days and available to play with members across all segments.
Experience Required
- PGA of America Class A Membership is required.
- Demonstrated experience leading golf operations at a private club or comparable facility.
- Strong teaching and player-development skills, with the ability to establish programs for all member segments.
- Proven ability to recruit, train, and supervise a seasonal golf staff.
- Retail and merchandising experience, including inventory control and shop presentation.
- Working knowledge of USGA Rules of Golf, handicap administration, and tournament operations.
- Excellent member-service presence; comfort being highly visible on holidays, weekends, and league days.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the Board, General Manager, Golf Committee, and fellow department heads.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership, Staff & Service
- Report directly to the Board of Directors and/or their designee.
- Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise golf operations staff, including assistants, teaching professionals, interns, shop staff, bag/range staff, and starters.
- Hold regular staff meetings to review past and upcoming events and continually improve operations.
- Work with the General Manager on weekly golf staff scheduling, timesheets/payroll, and submission of coded invoices to the controller.
- Meet, greet, and welcome all members and guests; promote an exceptional golf experience.
- Maintain a close working relationship with all department heads.
- Make yourself available to play with any and all member segments.
- Ensure perpetual promotion of the game of golf and Niagara Frontier Golf Club.
On-Course Operations & Pace of Play
- Implement and enforce all Club policies and procedures, including but not limited to outside alcohol and any unregistered play off the back nine.
- Enforce the Club's dress code in the shop, on the course, and at all practice areas.
- Oversee all registration and start of play, the tee-time system, and pace of play.
- Log all play with time, member/guest names, and cart usage (ride or pull) or walking.
- Oversee bag-room services, storage, and operations; oversee locker assignments for members.
- Oversee operations of all practice facilities.
- Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the cart fleet and any rentals.
- Oversee all on-course accessories, hazard markers, out-of-bounds markers, and ground-under-repair painting.
- Oversee the evacuation plan, siren call, and operational readiness of the warning system.
- Provide USGA rulings when applicable.
- Oversee the administration of the handicap system.
- Manage, collect, and record all proximity usage.
- Oversee operation and play of all golf leagues.
- Oversee all collegiate affiliations and play, and all reciprocal affiliations and play.
Tournaments, Instruction & Programming
- Manage and oversee all member tournaments and all outside tournaments.
- Develop and oversee golf instruction and player-development programs for all member segments.
- Coordinate and oversee manufacturer demo days.
- Work with Catering and Events to help sell, book, and run all outside golf events.
- Strive to develop and maintain new sources of golf income through creative programming and events for members and their guests.
Retail, Finance & Administration
- Own and maintain an attractive retail operation of the golf shop and ensure an adequate supply of hard and soft goods for members and guests.
- Responsible for timely and accurate collection and reporting of all related inventories.
- Oversee all golf-related purchasing (scorecards, bag tags, golf handbooks, tournament score sheets, marking paint, range balls, towels, tees, ball markers, divot tools, and similar items).
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all department-related revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Establish goals and forecasts for tournaments, guest fees, cart fees, handicap fees, range fees (where applicable), and storage fees (where applicable).
- Monitor and analyze member, guest, and tournament round counts.
- Implement systems and controls to safeguard all assets, inventory, and resources of the Club.
- Assist with marketing and promotion of new memberships, new-member play, and prospective-member play.
- Provide timely and accurate information regarding golf events and course conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Assist in publication of all golf-related matters for newsletters, e-blasts, mailings, and informational and promotional materials.
- Compile information from market competition for comparison studies to properly position the Club in the marketplace.
- Serve as main contact for the USGA and PGA, and as main contact for the Golf Committee in concert with the General Manager.
