Qualifications

Head Custodian – Forest Avenue School

Verona Public Schools seeks a qualified, dependable, experienced individual to serve as Head Custodian at Forest Avenue School. The successful candidate will oversee the building's daily custodial operations and ensure a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid New Jersey Black Seal Boiler Operator's License required or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by the district.
• Previous custodial experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of custodial procedures, building maintenance, cleaning equipment, and safety protocols.
• Ability to supervise custodial personnel, prioritize assignments, and coordinate daily building operations.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and identify maintenance needs.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, respond to emergencies, and collaborate effectively with school administrators and district facilities personnel.
• Must meet all New Jersey public school employment requirements, including criminal history background clearance.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and participate in daily cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of the school building.
• Supervise and coordinate assigned custodial staff.
• Conduct routine building inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and proper maintenance.
• Monitor building systems and promptly report maintenance concerns.
• Coordinate building preparation for school activities, meetings, and special events.
• Maintain custodial supplies, equipment, and inventory.
• Ensure compliance with district safety procedures and applicable regulations.

Position:

Full-Time, 12-Month Position

Salary and Benefits:

In accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement (Range Step 1 $45,578- Step 11 $67,457 plus Head Custodian Stipend $5033)

Start Date:

As soon as possible; position will be vacant as of November 30, 2026
