Job Title: Head Cook – Summer Food Services Program (SFSP)

Location: Laconia

Hours: Part Time – Temporary (12 Weeks), Monday – Friday, 25 hours per week

Salary Description: $16.16 per hour

The Summer Food Service Program provides USDA-funded meals at no cost to children and teens during the summer months. The locations range throughout Belknap, Merrimack, and Grafton Counties.

A Day in the Life as an SFSP Head Cook:

As the Head Cook for the Summer Food Services Program, you’ll be responsible for the daily food service operations. Your responsibilities will be to:

  1. Prepare breakfast and lunch for the SFSP, prepare all meals following the provided quantity food recipes, and follow the provided menu with no alteration unless approved by the SFSP Program Manager.
  2. Maintain an understanding of USDA requirements.
  3. Maintain sanitary food practices in accordance with state and local requirements.
  4. Assist in ordering food and dairy beverages from approved vendors, accepting delivery of products and forwarding invoices to the SFSP program manager.
  5. Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, refrigerator, freezers, stoves, and ovens; all cleaning must be performed on a routine as well as 'as-needed' basis.
  6. Transport meals to sites prior to meal service as needed.

Your role will directly contribute to a positive participant experience and efficient operations across the program.

Qualifications to Be an SFSP Head Cook:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  1. Education: High School diploma or equivalency credential.
  2. Experience: One year of experience in commercial kitchens or equivalent food service experience.
  3. Skills: Good verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  4. Characteristics: Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as needed.
  5. Technical: Knowledge of health and safety standards as they relate to food preparation, service, and storage. ServSafe certification.
  6. Physical Requirement: Requires lifting and moving up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds with another person. Pushing and pulling food carts up to 100 pounds.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for travel. Successful completion of a criminal record check required.
