Job summary

Paterson Public Schools seeks coaches for the spring season. Applicants must hold NJ teaching or substitute credentials, be CPR/First Aid certified, and complete NFHS coaching courses. Availability is required daily during the season, and prior coaching is preferred but not mandatory.

New coaches must complete NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching once, plus annual refreshers for Concussion and Heat Illness Prevention. BeNice and Implicit Bias courses are also required.

Qualifications

• DOE certification requirements include NJ Teacher's Certification or NJ Instructional Substitute Credential.
• Proof of experience required for Substitute Certificate holder.
• Coaching experience preferred but not required.
• Must be available daily during the spring season.
• All coaches must hold a current adult CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Certification.
• All DOE-approved certifications are acceptable.
• NFHS coaching courses: Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion, Heat Illness Prevention, Implicit Bias, BeNice.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching is a one-time requirement for new coaches.
• NFHS Concussion in Sports Course, renewed annually.
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course, renewed annually.
• NFHS Implicit Bias Course, one-time requirement.
• BeNice Program, one-time requirement.

Season Dates: March 9, 2027- June 14, 2027

Qualifications:

• DOE Certification Requirements (including volunteer coaches) must have one of the two certifications:
  • New Jersey Teacher's Certification
  • New Jersey Instructional Substitute Credential (30 College Credits)
• Proof of experience required for Substitute Certificate holder.
• Coaching experience preferred but not required.
• Must be available daily during the spring sports season.
• All coaches must hold a current (valid) adult CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Certification.
• All courses that the DOE approves for certification are acceptable.
• All new coaches (starting 2007-2008 school year) must complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course before their first employment as a coach. This course is a one-time requirement.
• All coaches must complete the NFHS Concussion in Sports Course, renewed annually.
• All coaches must complete the NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course, renewed annually.
• All coaches must complete the NFHS Implicit Bias Course. This course is a one-time requirement.
• All coaches must complete the BeNice Program. This course is a one-time requirement.

• Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
