Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $18.00 - $25.00 Hourly
Description

The Head Chef is responsible for assisting the Dining Center Supervisor, including overseeing daily kitchen operations. The Head Chef will help develop menus, food purchase specifications, and recipes. Beyond technical duties, this role involves leading and serving residents and staff at City Mission, fostering strong relationships across departments. The Head Chef reports directly to the Dining Center Supervisor.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all food safety regulations are followed
  • Inspect the quality of the food
  • Assist with training and coordinating all kitchen staff, including volunteers and residents
  • Assist in mentoring and training resident interns through the Mission Works Program
  • Maintain a cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment, ensuring sanitation, cleanliness, and safety
  • Cook regularly, overseeing prep and skillful food preparation
  • Support training and professional development for kitchen staff and interns
  • Engage with residents and the community in the dining area
  • Interact with donors, efficiently and professionally managing donations
  • Participate actively in weekly meetings, sharing ideas
  • Participate in rotating shifts, including weekends
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of kitchen leadership experience preferred
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to work sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Model a positive culture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Clean driving record
  • High school diploma or GED
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged standing on hard surfaces
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
