Job summary

Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX is seeking a High Explosives (HE) Manufacturing Engineer at senior levels to join HE Engineering. The role focuses on SME for HE component manufacturing, developing and improving processes, and liaising with Design Agencies to advance production and surveillance activities.

Candidates should have a degree in engineering/science with 2+ years (or advanced degrees) and be prepared for potential additive manufacturing work, with the possibility of security clearance

  • OR Master’s Degree in engineering/science.
  • OR PhD in engineering/science.
  • ABET-accredited program or equivalent preferred.
  • GPA 3.0/4.0+ for up to four years post-graduation; higher experience can offset GPA.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME on HE component manufacturing processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Liaise between Design Agencies and Pantex for process and component development.
  • Collaborate with technicians and programmers to incorporate input into processes.
  • Potential involvement in installation of additive manufacturing equipment.

What You’Ll Do

As a High Explosives (HE) Manufacturing Engineer, the candidate will be the Subject Matter Expert on HE component manufacturing processes. This individual will be part of a team that is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving processes and procedures for the manufacturing of HE components and the associated surveillance and gauging of HE components. This individual will serve as a liaison between the Design Agencies and Pantex for the development of processes and components and will also work with technicians and programmers in the work areas to incorporate their input into the process. Additionally, this position may have a role in the installation of additive manufacturing equipment and the development of the associated processes.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering/science discipline with a minimum 2 years of relevant experience. (Typical engineering/science experience ranging from 3 to 7 years.)
  • OR Master’s Degree in an engineering/science discipline.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents thru ABET Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA)
  • OR a Bachelor’s Degree in science.
  • A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) is preferred for up to four years post-graduation, confirmed by transcript at the time of offer. Beyond four years from graduation, relevant experience will supersede GPA in hiring considerations.
    • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA
    • Master’s Degree with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
    • PhD with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • The ability to understand high explosive manufacturing processes to support new production and surveillance activities.
  • Knowledge of procedure writing and a general understanding of the Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) Process.
  • Experience working the Design Agencies and familiarity with common documentation requirements with the Design Agencies.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with typical engineering/science experience ranging from 3 to 7 years.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
