Job summary

Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX is seeking a diligent Material Handler to support the Inventory Management team. You will operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment, move and store materials, and maintain accurate records to ensure safe, efficient operations.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, forklift experience, and the ability to read and follow instructions. Safety training and a valid CDL may be required, with strong teamwork and attention to detail valued in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, stock-pickers, etc.) to transport, load, unload, stock, and store materials.
  • Record, verify, and maintain paperwork; input data into computer systems.
  • Support DOT compliance and drive/operate vehicles as needed; maintain housekeeping and safety.

Job Title: Material Handler

Organization: Inventory Management (51397411)

Essential Job Duties
  • Operates all material handling/moving equipment such as, but not limited to, forklifts, stock-pickers, buses, trucks, cars, etc., in connection with assigned duties such as:
    • Transportation of material
    • Loading and unloading of materials and containers
    • Stacking and arranging material
    • Stocking and storing containers
  • Records, verifies, and maintains all necessary paperwork to accomplish job assignment
  • Packages, straps, and seals as needed and assigned
  • Ships, receives, and stores merchandise/material as required to accomplish job assignment
  • Operates computer systems to input and retrieve data as necessary to accomplish job assignments
  • May operate automated warehouse storage systems in connection with assigned duties, such as stocking, palletizing, and issuing materials
  • May perform inventories of machine and stock
  • May balance monies using basic understanding of vending machine questions, as applicable
  • Performs assignments with a high degree of quality and efficiency exercising prescribed safety and security measures
  • Works harmoniously with co-workers, representatives of other Departments/Divisions, and outside agencies
  • Responsible for housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned area and equipment
  • Maintains necessary forms and records essential to accomplishing assigned responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring no unauthorized operations are performed
  • Responsible for care and protection of assigned material and equipment
  • Responsible for ensuring materials are transported and vehicles are operated in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and other application governing documentation (i.e., DOE Order, PlantDirectives/Standards, etc)
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE),Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the General EmployeeTraining (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management
  • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls
  • Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized
  • Attends all required safety meetings and training and offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment
Skills And Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.

  • Must be physically fit to perform job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
  • All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with formeremployers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
  • Must have relevant experience operating a Forklift. This experience can be gained from the following sources:
    • Minimum of one (1) year work experience, within the last five (5) years, which included assignmentsinvolving forklift operation as a significant part of the job.
    • OR
    • Successful completion, within the last two (2) years of an accredited forklift training course that includes classroom instruction and hands‑on training pursuant to the requirements set forth in 29 CFR 1910.178, Powered industrial trucks.
  • May be required to possess a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL), of the appropriate class A, B, or C, and have an acceptable driving record as determined by Management after reviewing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • May be required to demonstrate ability to handle and dock in close quarters heavy duty tractors with 40-foot van‑type trailers. Ability established by a practical driving demonstration on Plant premises.
  • Must successfully complete a Self-Assessment.*

Education
  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements
  • In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

  • Near vision (must be able to read computer screen, manuscript, book etc, at approximately 13-16 inchesfrom the face)
  • Depth perception (ability to tell how close or far an object is)

  • No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
  • Ability to use small tools
  • Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties

Notes

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
