Job summary

Torc Robotics, Inc. is seeking a QC Engineer to audit HD map geospatial datasets and ensure the accuracy required for autonomous trucks.

You will review lane geometry, road boundaries, signage, and other map features derived from LiDAR and sensor data, collaborating with mapping engineers, vendors, and autonomy teams. The role requires 1–3 years in geospatial data QC (or 3–5 years for higher level), familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and LiDAR viewers, and a keen eye for detail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• 1–3 years of experience (QC Engineer I) or 3–5 years (QC Engineer II) in geospatial data QC or related quality/annotation role
• Experience with geospatial data formats (shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML) and coordinate/projection systems
• Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and LiDAR/point cloud viewers
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify spatial/geometric inconsistencies in large datasets
• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and vendor teams
• Clear written communication for documenting defects and QC standards

Responsibilities

• Review HD map geospatial data against internal quality specifications and ground-truth sources
• Perform QC on map features derived from LiDAR, imagery, and sensor data
• Identify, document, and triage map defects; escalate safety-critical issues
• Define and refine QC metrics, sampling strategies, and audit workflows to scale accuracy
• Partner with mapping vendors and internal teams to communicate quality standards
• Analyze recurring defect patterns and feed findings back into map creation processes
• Maintain documentation of QC procedures, edge cases, and regional map requirements
• Support readiness reviews for new lanes, corridors, or operational design domains
