Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an Early Career Hazardous Material Packaging Specialist to ensure compliance with DOE, DOT and Sandia requirements for shipping, storage, handling and transportation of hazardous materials. The role emphasizes safe, compliant packaging and timely support for projects in a fast-paced environment.

Onsite work is required; you will collaborate with customers and internal teams to establish shipping requirements, provide packing instructions, oversee packaging

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Experience interpreting federal, state, or local hazardous material standards and regulations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Excellent customer service and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to model Sandia's core values.
• Organize, prioritize and follow through on multiple tasks.
• Experience with packaging/transportation requirements for explosives and radiological materials is preferred.
• Ability to interpret federal, state, and local hazardous material standards.

Responsibilities

• Work with customers to establish shipping requirements and schedules.
• Provide packing instructions to prepare hazardous materials for shipment, including marking, labelling, and container selection.
• Oversee packaging activities to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Sign legal shipping documentation on behalf of Sandia National Laboratories.
• Provide guidance and direction to internal customers for the safe and compliant shipment of items.
• Ensure safe compliant shipping of radiological and explosive materials.
• Ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
