Job summary

West Virginia University is seeking a Hazardous Materials Manager within Environmental Health and Safety to lead planning, development, and administration of state-wide policies for hazardous materials and waste. You will supervise staff, oversee determinations, and coordinate with procurement and administration.

The role emphasizes safety culture, training, and compliance with regulatory requirements, with responsibilities to manage contracts, conduct audits, and provide reports to WVU

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in hazardous materials or hazardous waste management.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with staff to develop goals, provide direction, and oversee performance and functions.
  • Ensure hazardous waste determinations are completed timely.
  • Assign tasks through a work management system.
  • Prepare reports for WVU administration as required.
  • Oversee safety program reviews and ensure compliance with standards and university policy.
  • Supervise Hazardous Materials Specialists, Technologists and Graduate Students; provide guidance and development.
