Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Environmental, Physical, Biological or Engineering Sciences.
• At least three (3) years of professional level experience in environmental health investigatory/enforcement work.
• Certification as a registered Environmental Health Specialist as outlined by the State Board.
• A valid Maryland State driver's license is required upon appointment to perform duties.
• There is no equivalency for required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical review of proposals and plans for sludge utilization/storage and waste facilities, recycling sites, and remediation projects.
• Respond to FOIA requests in writing using information available in Departmental records.
• Provide supervision, assistance and training to Environmental Engineering staff on facilities and waste-related operations.
• Inspect facilities to determine compliance with health and environmental laws.
• Perform pre-opening, routine and follow-up inspections of programs including pools, septic, wells, and related applications.
• Collect required samples using proper techniques for laboratory analysis.
• Respond to complaints involving mishandling or improper disposal of waste that could cause environmental contamination.
