Job summary

Prince George’s County Government seeks a Hazardous Materials/Environmental Compliance Specialist within the Environmental Health and Disease Control Division. The role handles inspections and investigations to enforce health and environmental codes across facilities and sites located in Prince George’s County.

The position requires a relevant Bachelor's degree, 3+ years of professional experience, and certification as a registered Environmental Health Specialist, plus a Maryland driver’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Environmental, Physical, Biological or Engineering Sciences.
• A minimum of three (3) years of professional level experience in environmental health investigatory/enforcement work.
• Certification as a registered Environmental Health Specialist as outlined by the State Board of Environmental Health Specialists Registration and in conjunction with State law.
• A valid Maryland State driver's license is required upon appointment to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical review of proposals and plans for sewage sludge utilization/storage, solid waste facilities, recycling, special medical waste, and environmental remediation plans.
• Respond to FOIA requests in writing using departmental records.
• Provide supervision, assistance, and training to Environmental Engineering staff on facilities like sludge utilization/storage and disposal facilities, recycling facilities, transfer stations, trash trucks, and medical waste sites.
• Inspect facilities to determine compliance.
