Job summary

Prince George’s County Government in Upper Marlboro, MD, seeks a professional environmental health specialist to enforce health and environmental codes across facilities, waste handling, and contamination sites. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Environmental, Physical, Biological or Engineering Sciences.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional-level environmental health investigatory/enforcement experience.
• Certification as a registered Environmental Health Specialist as per State Board requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical reviews of plans for sewage sludge, waste and disposal facilities, and environmental remediation projects.
• Respond to FOIA requests in writing using departmental records.
• Provide supervision and training to Environmental Engineering staff on related facilities and waste handling.
• Inspect facilities to determine compliance with regulations and standards.
• Perform pre-opening, routine, and follow-up inspections of environmental facilities and related systems.
• Collect samples using proper techniques for lab analysis.
• Address complaints about improper disposal of waste and contaminants.
