Job summary

College of DuPage seeks a Coordinator, Hazardous Material (FT) to manage safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals across all departments. You will advise on compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and lead safety training and program development.

The role requires a chemistry degree (or related field), CHMM or equivalent certification, and at least one year in EH&S with hazardous materials safety experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in chemistry or related field required.
  • Certification for Hazardous Materials Emergency First Response or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager required.
  • One year in environmental health and safety issues required.
  • Laboratory or hazardous chemical safety experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee safe and compliant acquisition, use, storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials for the College.
  • Advise staff on chemical regulations, operations safety and provide supervisory training.
  • Inspect laboratories and storage areas; audit operations and recommend safety improvements.
  • Develop and implement college policies for programs using chemicals or hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate hazardous materials program, including MSDS records, RTK notices and training.
  • Respond to spills, leaks and air quality concerns with corrective actions.
