Job summary

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is seeking a Fire Chief to support the U.S. Navy at Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kaua'i. You will oversee Fire & Emergency Services, ensure compliance with DoD and NFPA standards, and lead a cross-functional team across shift operations and training programs.

The role requires extensive firefighting leadership experience, DoD policy knowledge, and a focus on safety, risk management, and community coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of F&ES governing regulations (DoD, CFR) and NFPA standards.
• Risk management principles, practices and procedures.
• Ability to assess and target compliance to professional and customer requirements.
• Direct operations under stressful, dangerous conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships across military, civilian and community stakeholders.
• Fifteen years’ experience in a full-time fire department.
• Eight years’ experience as a supervisor / Chief Officer.
• Four years in a lead position (Lieutenant, Crew Chief).
• One year experience with ARFF.
• Advanced knowledge of DoD Fire & Emergency Services policies.

Responsibilities

• Manage personnel across a 24-hour rotating shift operation.
• Administer corrective or disciplinary actions as needed.
• Ensure equipment, vehicles and facilities are inspected and ready for use.
• Develop fire prevention and education programs.
• Develop F&ES training and education program.
• Develop OSH program aligned with NFPA 1500.
• Equip and deploy a skilled emergency service team for diverse incidents.
• Maintain a self-inspection program for compliance.
• Produce required written procedures and deployment plans.
• Oversee department budgeting and funds execution.
• Prepare IAPs and operation briefings for missile tests and VIP visits.
• Perform other duties as required.
