truckingpeople is seeking an experienced Haul Truck Operator in Safford, AZ to support safe operation, testing, and readiness of 20-ton mining vehicles. You will perform inspections, report maintenance needs, and assist with vehicle testing and feedback to engineering teams.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of heavy equipment experience, are safety-conscious, and can travel up to 50% with potential initial training in Sunol, CA before deployment to Arizona. CDL-A is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of verifiable heavy machinery operating experience.
• Experience operating large heavy equipment, preferably rigid-frame or articulated haul trucks.
• Ability to pass a background check and road test.
• Ability to satisfy applicable DOT driver requirements, including a drug test, MVR review, and physical.
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate 20-ton mining vehicles and other fleet vehicles as required.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections.
• Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
• Identify and promptly report vehicle maintenance, safety, or performance concerns.
• Safely maneuver, drive, and back large mining vehicles.
• Support hardware and software testing of vehicle systems.
• Provide clear written and verbal feedback to engineering teams regarding vehicle and system performance.
• Maintain vehicle readiness and follow established safety and compliance procedures.
• Follow written and verbal operating instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Assist with additional operational tasks as needed.
• Travel as required for training and operational assignments.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Haul Truck Operator to support the safe operation, testing, and readiness of large-scale mining vehicles in Safford, Arizona.

In this role, you will operate 20-ton mining vehicles, conduct required vehicle inspections, support equipment testing, and provide feedback on vehicle performance. This position is ideal for an experienced heavy equipment operator who prioritizes safety, is comfortable operating large vehicles for extended periods, and is interested in working with advanced vehicle and autonomous technology.

Candidates with rigid-frame haul truck experience are strongly preferred. Experience operating articulated haul trucks or similar heavy mining equipment will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate 20-ton mining vehicles and other fleet vehicles as required.

• Ability to read, understand, and follow laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and operating instructions.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Professional, dependable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.


• Interest in driver-assistance and autonomous vehicle technology and willingness to learn new systems.


• CDL-A is a plus but is not required.

Driving Record Requirements

Candidates must meet the following driving standards:

• No more than two minor moving violations within the past three years.


• No serious traffic violations within the past five years.


• No DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless-driving convictions involving alcohol or drugs within the past ten years.


• No preventable accidents while operating a personal or commercial vehicle within the past three years.


• No preventable DOT-recordable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle within the past ten years.

Travel & Training

The position may require up to 50% travel. Candidates should also be willing and able to potentially complete approximately one week of initial training in Sunol, California, before deployment to Arizona.
