Job summary

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is hiring an Assistant Hatchery Superintendent (Wildlife Conservation Technician II) to lead a small hatchery team at the Armstrong State Fish Hatchery in Marion, NC. The role focuses on planning, propagation, rearing, and distribution of warmwater and coldwater fishes, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient hatchery operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of fish culture or biology.
• Experience collecting and recording physical, chemical, and biological data.
• Experience operating or maintaining hatchery equipment, buildings, and facilities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hatchery staff, other agency staff, cooperating agencies and the public.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Act as Team Leader for a 2-3 Fish Culturists unit and oversee production tasks.
• Participate in production planning, propagation, rearing, transportation, and distribution of selected fish species.
• Coordinate operation and maintenance of hatchery facilities and equipment.
• Ensure permit compliance, reporting, and collaboration with partners and the public.
