The State of South Carolina seeks a manager for the Cheraw Fish Hatchery to oversee all culture and harvest activities, ensure production goals are met, and supervise staff and facilities. The role requires coordinating resources, maintaining records, and providing outreach support for fisheries programs.
You will work on-site, live in a provided residence, and be on-call around the clock, contributing to the state's fishery management objectives and public outreach efforts.
A master's degree in biology, chemistry or wildlife management and two (2) years of experience in fish, wildlife or marine management or research programs; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and four (4) years of experience in fish, wildlife or marine management or research programs.
Knowledge of warmwater fish culture techniques and nutrition; genetics and methodology of fish brood-stock enhancement; identification and treatment of common warmwater fish diseases and parasites; maintenance of grounds, buildings, equipment, ponds, and dams; theory and principles of fisheries biology; and supervisory methods and techniques. Previous black bass (Micropterus spp.) culture experience preferred. Familiarity with personal computers and mobile devices; proficiency with Microsoft Office products and GIS online. Must be able to collect, enter, and manage data reliably, track and manage budgets, and formulate work-plans to achieve project goals. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather and lift 50 Ibs without assistance. Must be willing to live on-site in SCDNR-provided residence.
