Job summary

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking an Assistant Hatchery Superintendent (Wildlife Conservation Technician II) for the Armstrong State Fish Hatchery in Marion, NC. You will lead a small team and oversee production planning, propagation, rearing, transportation, and distribution of warmwater and coldwater fishes.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of fish culture or biology.
• Experience collecting and recording physical, chemical, and biological data.
• Experience operating or maintaining hatchery equipment (e.g., farm tractor, fish feeder, lawn mower, stocking truck, lab equipment).
• Experience constructing, maintaining, and repairing hatchery facilities and equipment.
• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Act as Team Leader for a 2–3 person fish culturist unit and oversee production planning, propagation, rearing, transport, and distribution of warmwater and coldwater fishes.
• Coordinate reporting, compliance, and maintenance of hatchery facilities and equipment.
• Ensure permits and safety requirements are followed; collaborate with staff and partner agencies.
