Job summary

Lantern Community Services, Inc. in New York City seeks a Harm Reduction Specialist to support residents experiencing homelessness with person-centered services.

You will engage tenants, provide harm reduction, conduct risk assessments, develop curricula with leadership, collaborate with partners, and document services in confidential records. This full-time role requires CASAC-T or enrollment within 6 months, at least two years of experience, and bilingual English/Spanish is a plus; the role

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CASAC-T certification required, or willingness to enroll within six months of hire, with completion within eighteen months.
• Minimum of two years of experience providing harm reduction and substance use services.
• Experience with homelessness, mental illness, substance use, HIV/AIDS, or chronic medical conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a diverse caseload.
• Ability to work under pressure, including in crisis situations.
• Experience conducting risk assessments and making treatment referrals.
• Experience with community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Engage tenants with Harm Reduction goals and support risk reduction and treatment decisions.
• Provide person-centered harm reduction services that promote health and housing stability.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide appropriate referrals.
• Identify short- and long-term service needs and support residents in achieving their goals.
• Utilize harm reduction approaches to address mental health and substance use challenges.
• Develop workshop curricula and lead group sessions on recovery education and coping skills.
• Collaborate with Harm Reduction Leadership to coordinate on-site health services and educational tables.
• Document all services and maintain confidential resident records; participate in team meetings and training.
