Job summary

Alliance for Living seeks a Harm Reduction Prevention Specialist to work within the Syringe Services Program (SSP), distributing safer-use supplies and providing education on safer practices, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and overdose prevention. The role includes conducting HIV/HCV testing at AFL sites and in the community, recording data, and coordinating with clinical staff to ensure access to care.

The position is non-exempt, full-time, and benefits-eligible, reporting to the Assistant Director of

Qualifications

  • Commitment to people who use drugs and at-risk populations.
  • Experience in harm reduction or outreach activities.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and overdose prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute sterile syringes and safer injection equipment; promote safe disposal.
  • Provide education on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and Narcan distribution.
  • Conduct HIV and HCV testing.
  • Enter data into the CT DPH database and maintain records.
  • Monitor inventory and coordinate reorders with leadership.
  • Assemble and distribute safer use kits; manage vending stock as needed.
  • Refer participants to community supports and collaborate with clinical staff.
