Job summary

Black Lives Matter Paterson is looking for an advocate to support individuals navigating complex social and medical systems. The position emphasizes a harm reduction approach in working with people who use drugs, facilitating education and recovery support.

The candidate will engage with a diverse clientele, distribute harm reduction resources, and connect individuals to critical services. Applicants should have lived experience as a drug user and possess a Recovery Coach Certification.

Work hours are primarily from 10 AM to 5 PM with some non-traditional hours required.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in harm reduction or social services.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends.
• Possess reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Engage with individuals using substances in a person-centered manner.
• Distribute harm reduction supplies and provide education on drug use.
• Conduct outreach activities targeting high-risk neighborhoods.
• Support clients in setting personal goals and achieving recovery.
• Facilitate individual and group sessions as required.
• Link clients to supportive services including health care and treatment.
