We are seeking a skilled and highly organized Hardware Development Lab Technician to support server hardware development, prototype assembly and day‑to‑day lab operations. This position combines hands‑on technical work—including server builds, hardware rework, soldering, troubleshooting and component installation—with responsibility for ordering parts, managing lab supplies and coordinating with internal procurement teams and external vendors.

The ideal candidate has experience working with computer or server hardware, is comfortable performing detailed electronic assembly and rework, and can manage multiple technical and administrative priorities in a fast‑paced engineering development environment.

Key Responsibilities
Server Hardware and Prototype Support
  • Assemble, configure and modify prototype server systems, subsystems and rack‑level solutions according to engineering specifications, build instructions and schematics.
  • Install and replace processors, memory, storage devices, system boards, power supplies, riser cards, network adapters, GPUs, cables, cooling components and other server hardware.
  • Perform board‑level and cable‑level rework, including soldering, desoldering, connector replacement, wire modifications and other approved hardware changes.
  • Prepare systems for engineering testing, demonstrations, customer evaluations and shipment.
  • Assist with the installation and integration of servers, networking equipment, power‑distribution hardware and rack‑level solutions.
Lab Operations and Material Management
  • Order electronic components, server parts, tools, consumables and other laboratory supplies using company purchasing and ordering systems.
  • Create and track purchase requests, purchase orders and material requisitions.
  • Work with procurement, finance, engineering teams and approved vendors to obtain quotations, confirm part availability and resolve ordering or delivery issues.
  • Monitor order status, lead times, backorders and expected delivery dates, and communicate potential schedule impacts to project stakeholders.
  • Receive, inspect, label and organize incoming parts and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for development hardware, spare parts, tools and consumable materials.
  • Help establish appropriate minimum and maximum inventory levels for frequently used lab supplies.
  • Identify obsolete, damaged or excess materials and coordinate their proper disposition.
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, asset tracking and movement of equipment within the lab.
  • Maintain organized storage areas, workbenches, tool stations and prototype‑build spaces.
Safety, Quality and Compliance
  • Follow established electrostatic‑discharge controls, laboratory safety procedures and equipment‑handling requirements.
  • Ensure soldering and rework activities comply with applicable workmanship and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment.
  • Safely handle heavy server equipment and use appropriate lifting equipment or team‑lifting procedures.
  • Support laboratory audits, asset reviews, inventory counts and other compliance activities.
  • Identify potential safety, quality or operational concerns and elevate them promptly.
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certification or equivalent practical experience in electronics, computer hardware, electrical engineering technology or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience assembling, repairing or troubleshooting computer, server or electronic hardware.
  • Experience with soldering, desoldering and electronic hardware rework.
  • Working knowledge of processors, memory, storage, system boards, power supplies, network adapters, GPUs and related server components.
  • Familiarity with ESD‑safe work practices and standard electronics laboratory tools.
  • Experience using purchasing, inventory, ERP or material‑ordering systems.
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, schematics, bills of materials, assembly instructions and engineering change documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a hardware development environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with engineers, procurement personnel, vendors and other lab team members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a server, data‑center, electronics‑manufacturing or hardware‑development laboratory.
  • Experience building or supporting prototype server systems and engineering samples.
  • Familiarity with high‑performance computing, GPU servers, AI platforms or rack‑scale solutions.
  • Experience with liquid‑cooled server hardware, rack power distribution or high‑density computing equipment.
  • Knowledge of IPC soldering and workmanship standards; current IPC certification is a plus.
  • Experience with component inventory, bill‑of‑material management and prototype material tracking.
  • Familiarity with enterprise purchasing, asset‑management and shipping systems.
  • Experience coordinating directly with component suppliers, distributors and contract manufacturers.
  • Basic Linux, system‑management or server diagnostic experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work regularly in a server hardware laboratory.
  • Ability to lift and move server components and equipment in accordance with company safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform detailed work involving small components, connectors, cables and solder joints.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach and work around server racks and laboratory benches for extended periods.
  • Willingness to use appropriate personal protective equipment and material‑handling equipment when required.
