Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Hardware Engineering Technician in our research and development division. The role focuses on testing proto units and boards with opportunities for investigative troubleshooting to the component level.

Essential duties include basic hardware tests, prototype assembly, ECO processing, and supporting engineers in evaluation and development activities within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree.
• Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
• Familiarity with modern test equipment.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
• Negative drug test result(s).

Responsibilities

• Perform basic electronic hardware tests per defined engineering procedures.
• Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer or experienced technician and document construction.
• Assist engineers in evaluating new electronic components.
• Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
• Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
• Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of modest complexity under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
