Job summary

Jobtailor in Milford, MO is seeking a propulsion hardware engineer to lead design from concept to production launch. You will focus on electrical hardware, PCB layout, and rigorous verification while meeting cost, timing, quality, and safety targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Masters in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in electronic hardware design.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuit design and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation processes.
  • Understanding of hardware design and failure modes.
  • Proficiency in controller development process including schematics, PCB layouts, EMC, and power dissipation.
  • This position requires you to be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Design propulsion controller hardware from schematic capture to production launch.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams for seamless integration.
  • Work with contract manufacturers from prototype through mass production.
  • Electrical schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Perform/support worst-case, thermal, signal integrity, and power integrity analyses.
  • Assist in design for manufacturing, assembly, and testing (DFM/DFA/DFT).
  • Drive validation and testing of hardware components and systems for reliability.
  • Establish test plans and protocols to validate designs against requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to perform testing and troubleshoot issues.
  • Support DFMEA/PFMEA and capture lessons learned for best practices.

Job description

  • Design of propulsion controller electrical hardware: from schematic capture, worst case analysis, PCB layout, bring-up, debug, signal integrity and power integrity (SI/PI), design verification test (environmental and EMC), to manufacturing support and production launch.
  • Design and development of the propulsion controller hardware (from concept design to launch) while meeting cost, timing, quality, and safety targets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as software, mechanical, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of the electrical design of the propulsion controller hardware.
  • Work closely with contract manufacturing partners to ensure successful product build, from prototype through to mass production, while maintaining quality, cost, and timing targets.
  • Electrical schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Perform/support detailed hardware analysis – worst case analysis, thermal analysis, signal integrity, power integrity, etc.
  • Assist in design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for testing (DFT).
  • Drive the validation and testing of hardware components and systems, ensuring high levels of reliability and performance.
  • Establish test plans and protocols to validate designs against requirements.
  • Work with other team members to perform testing.
  • Assist in troubleshooting hardware issues, root cause analysis, and developing solutions to resolve design problems.
  • Support manufacturing partners in troubleshooting and resolving any production-related issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure optimal solutions.
  • Support DFMEA/PFMEA; ensure lessons learned and best practices are included.
Requirements
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in electronic hardware design or related.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuit design and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation processes.
  • Understanding of hardware design and failure mode.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in controller development process, including but not limited to knowledge of schematics, PCB layouts, EMC and power dissipation.
