Job description

You will join a customer engineering organization that delivers mission-enabling solutions for global security, developing operational electronic warfare and targeting systems that provide situational awareness, self-protection, and offensive electronic attack capability across the spectrum from visible light and IR through millimeter-wave RF. The portfolio spans land-forces and rotary-wing survivability systems, military electronic warfare and communications systems, missile warning systems and sensors, infrared countermeasure (IRCM) systems, automatic test equipment, modeling and simulation, and situational awareness programs.

The Hardware Engineer II role covers full life-cycle product development, system concept and requirements through design, implementation, test verification, production, and field support, while working on integrated product teams that span engineering, manufacturing, and program management. Digital subsystem and circuit card designs use current FPGA technologies from all major vendors and device families, including Xilinx, Altera, and Actel, and support high-speed interfaces, RF and electro-optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces. Strength in digital component design and analysis, modeling and simulation, circuit-level design and test, and small-team project leadership is what makes someone successful here.

Schedule: full-time position.

Responsibilities
  • Research, design, develop, and test digital hardware products across the full product life cycle, from concept and requirements through design, implementation, verification, production, and field support.
  • Design digital subsystems and circuit cards using current FPGA technologies from major vendors and device families, including Xilinx, Altera, and Actel.
  • Translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design specifications, and test specifications.
  • Perform circuit-level design, schematic capture, simulation, and analysis for high-speed digital interfaces, embedded processing, and processor interfaces.
  • Support RF and electro-optical DSP, controls, and data link designs at the circuit card and subsystem level.
  • Prototype, integrate, and debug complex digital subsystems in the lab, including FPGA- and processor-based circuit card assemblies.
  • Lead small design efforts (typically two or fewer engineers), mentor teammates, and coordinate across integrated product teams spanning engineering, manufacturing, and program management.
  • Maintain design documentation and requirements traceability in revision control and review systems such as DOORS, ClearCase, and ClearQuest.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of digital electronics design experience; or a Master's degree in one of those disciplines with 3 years of digital electronics design experience.
  • Digital circuit design experience spanning simulation and schematic capture through test and integration.
  • Hands-on prototyping and debug experience with complex digital subsystems, such as circuit card development involving FPGAs, embedded processors, and/or high-speed interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects with two or fewer team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications.
  • Familiarity with documentation revision control and review systems similar to DOORS, ClearCase, and ClearQuest.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Active Secret clearance, with additional customer-specified access required prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of digital electronics design experience.
  • Working knowledge of electronic warfare systems.
  • Experience in the aerospace and/or defense industries.
  • Recent circuit card design experience using tools such as Cadence Concept and Allegro, and/or Mentor DxDesigner and Expedition.
  • Working experience with ClearCase, ClearQuest, and DOORS.
  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Team leadership and mentoring, with clear communication at every level of an organization, internally and externally; adaptable, creative, and collaborative, and equally comfortable working independently on difficult problems.
Benefits — tailored to your needs
  • Flexible scheduling where available
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Healthcare savings account (HSA)
  • Paid time off, including holidays
  • Performance-based bonuses
