Frontgrade Technologies is seeking a Digital Hardware Engineer III to design, develop, integrate, and verify high‑reliability digital electronics for aerospace and defense applications. You will independently execute complex hardware designs while collaborating with FPGA, firmware, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to meet performance, reliability, and schedule objectives.

• 5+ years of experience in a specialized functional discipline.
• 3 years of experience may be considered with a Master’s Degree.

• Create detailed design and test documentation for procedures and results.
• Optimize designs for performance, reliability, and cost.
• Provide technical guidance to Junior Engineers.
• Participate in peer design reviews.

Overview

The Digital Hardware Engineer III is responsible for the design, development, integration, and verification of high‑reliability digital electronics for aerospace and defense applications. The role independently executes complex hardware designs while collaborating with FPGA, firmware, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver products that meet performance, reliability, and schedule objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop hardware designs for Space grade and High Reliability modules, including component selection, schematic capture, design constraints, and oversee the layout process.
• Perform component trade studies and part selection.
• Develop interface requirements.
• Identify and resolve hardware issues during development and post‑production.
• Work with software teams, firmware teams, manufacturing teams, and other engineers to integrate hardware and software solutions.
• Create detailed documentation for designs, testing procedures, and other relevant information.
• Optimize designs for performance, reliability, and cost.
• Provide technical guidance to Junior Engineers.
• Participate in peer design reviews.

Qualifications

• Education: Electrical (Bachelor’s degree) or Computer Engineering (Bachelor’s degree). Or nine (9) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in a specialized functional discipline.
• Experience: Or three (3) years of experience may be considered with a Master’s Degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Design experience with ARM or Intel based microprocessors.
• Design with AMD and/or Lattice FPGA’s.
• Proficiency in schematic capture with Siemens DXDesigner or Altium Designer.
• Experience with the design, constraint and integration of high‑speed interfaces such as PCIe Gen 3/4, 10 GbE, 40 GbE, 100 GbE, DDR4.
• High current/low voltage switching power supply experience.
• Experience collaborating with embedded software and firmware engineers to ensure seamless product verification and successful integration of hardware with FPGA and software functionality.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills to effectively work with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders.
• Experience with Hyperlynx SI/PI.
• Experience in Rad hard or high reliability design.
