Job summary

Torc Robotics seeks a Hardware Engineer I to join the Sensors Team, delivering multi-modal sensors for autonomous trucks. You will analyze hardware requirements, interface with suppliers, and help implement test plans to ensure automotive-grade performance.

Work with Component Enablement and Systems teams to translate system requirements into component specifications, maintain technical docs, and contribute to field testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Hardware/Computer Engineering or related field and 2+ years experience OR Master’s degree in related field and 0–3 years experience.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with sensor modalities including LiDAR, Radar, Camera, Microphones, INS.
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS and Jama.
  • Understanding of automotive ECUs and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with data buses such as CAN, PCIe, Ethernet, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, I2C.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to automotive electronics.
  • Experience with high-speed signaling and signal integrity.
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality of hardware deliveries by designing, establishing, and performing robust test plans traceable to component requirements; include lab and field testing.
  • Partner with the Component Enablement software team to execute hardware component tests and drive root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Systems team to interpret system-level requirements and decompose into detailed component requirements for each sensor.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and reports related to the above.

Join the Sensors Team, where we deliver multiple modalities of sensors that are rigorously tested and validated for Torc's autonomous driving trucks. Your role will have a significant impact on the future of trucking and autonomous technology as we look to Drive the Future of Freight. We are currently seeking a Hardware Engineer I who is enthusiastic about thriving in a hands‑on environment and ready to grow with the team. In this role, you will analyze and understand hardware requirements, interface with automotive suppliers and stakeholders, develop and oversee implementation of test plans and procedures, and ensure overall alignment between the hardware components and the system goals.

What you’ll do:
  • Ensure the quality of hardware deliveries by designing, establishing, and performing robust test plans that trace back to the component requirements. This includes lab-based testing and real-world field trials to verify sensor functionality and ensure automotive-grade performance.
  • Partner with the Component Enablement software team to execute the relevant hardware component tests. Perform problem‑solving activities during design, prototype, and production, driving root‑cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Partner with the Systems team to interpret system-level requirements and decompose into detailed component requirements for each sensor.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and reports related to the above.
What you’ll need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field and 2+ years of experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and 0‑3 years of experience.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working with sensor modalities including LiDAR, Radar, Camera, Microphones, Inertial Navigation Systems (INS).
  • Experience with Requirements Management Tools such as DOORS and Jama.
  • Understanding of automotive ECUs and methodologies.
  • Familiarity or experience with data buses such as CAN, PCIe, Ethernet, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, I2C.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to automotive electronics.
  • Experience with high-speed signaling and signal integrity.
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Willingness and ability to work across teams, geographies, and time zones.
Bonus Points!
  • Automotive Tier‑1 supplier experience or working in a similar environment.
  • Experience designing, executing, and documenting lab-based and/or real-world field tests.
  • Experience processing and analyzing large datasets from all sensor modalities to evaluate performance.
  • Experience with ISO 26262 standards, ASPICE, autonomous vehicles, or developing sensor modality applications.
  • Experience with processors and microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge or experience in safety‑critical systems and applications.
  • Experience with pyCASSD software.
  • Experience with C, C++, Python or Linux.
