Job summary

Beam Living in New York, NY is seeking a hands-on Handyperson for Parker Towers Operations to perform general repairs, diagnose issues, and close out work orders safely and neatly.

You will work Sunday & Monday 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM and Thursday to Saturday 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM, with weekend requirements and Overtime in emergencies as needed. Focus on reliability and clear resident communication.

Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance experience in residential or commercial buildings.
• Ability to use tablet-based work order programs to manage tasks.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with residents and coworkers.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work weekends and overtime in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform general plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, hardware, and other repairs.
• Troubleshoot maintenance problems independently and resolve them efficiently.
• Safely operate hand and power tools.
• Communicate professionally with residents, coworkers, supervisors, and contractors.
• Follow written and verbal instructions from supervisors.
• Document completed work accurately and close out work orders.
• Use a smartphone to receive, update, and close out work orders.
• Maintain strong attendance, reliability, and punctuality.
• Respond to building emergencies as required.

What the role looks like
A successful handyperson should be able to receive a work order, properly diagnose the problem, determine the correct repair, complete the work safely and neatly, clean the work area, communicate with the resident when appropriate, and accurately close out the work order.

Your skills and experience

• The ability to work with others to keep the team aligned and focused.

• The technical experience to be able to handle the repair needs of our residents and common areas.

• 3 years of hands-on residential or commercial building maintenance experience.

• Ability to use tablet-based work order program to complete assigned work orders.

• Able to multi-task under high pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• Weekend work required.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment

• Overtime is available and required in emergency situations

• Good time management and organizational skills

• Able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).
