SST Direct is seeking a hands-on Transformer Shop Refurbishment Technician for a shop-based role in Tampa, FL. You will disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble transformers, performing core/refurbishment work and oil processing, with emphasis on safety and quality.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of transformer refurbishment experience, knowledge of transformer components and testing, and comfort with electrical test instruments in a controlled shop setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; trade cert preferred.
• 1–3 years hands-on transformer refurbishment or repair experience.
• Knowledge of transformer components, wiring diagrams, and electrical testing methods.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble single-phase and three-phase transformers for inspection and refurbishment.
• Inspect transformer components and identify worn, damaged, or defective parts.
• Repair or replace transformer components as needed.
• Clean and treat transformer cores, coils, and tanks using approved chemicals and processes.
• Perform core iron inspection, cleaning, and repair.
• Reprocess, purify, and handle transformer insulating oil.
• Refill and finish transformer tanks following established procedures.
• Perform electrical and mechanical testing on refurbished transformer units.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during the refurbishment process.
• Prepare completed transformers for repainting, labeling, and final inspection.
• Maintain accurate refurbishment reports, test logs, and required documentation.
• Follow applicable safety procedures and industry standards throughout the refurbishment process.
• Safely operate hand tools, lifting equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, and electrical test equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
