Job summary

Patton Electronics Co. in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, test, and document mechanical components and electro-mechanical enclosures, using SolidWorks and GD&T to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

You will work with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, and quality, perform analyses and testing, create drawings and BOMs, and participate in design reviews while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related) with 2–5 years of experience.
• Experience designing sheet metal and CNC parts for low-run production.
• Foundational knowledge of mechanics, materials, manufacturing, thermodynamics, and drawings.
• SolidWorks proficiency through coursework, internships, or employment; PLM a plus; competency test during interview.
• Ability to read technical drawings, tolerances, BOMs; MS Office skills; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, and systems.
• Reverse engineer or update legacy parts from drawings for manufacturing.
• Collect data and document results for thermal, acoustic, and structural tests.
• Create and update engineering drawings per ASME with GD&T.
• Perform FEA analysis using SolidWorks simulation.
• Create and revise 3D models, BOMs, documentation, and assembly instructions.
• Support prototyping with internal and external manufacturing.
• Conduct verification testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
• Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve issues.
• Manage tasks, communicate progress, and meet schedules.
• Contribute to cost reduction and product quality initiatives.
