Job summary

Third Sector New England's Community Boat Building program seeks a Boat Building Teacher in Boston to deliver hands-on boat building for 5th–8th graders, develop curricula, and supervise volunteers and activities. The role focuses on safety, engagement, and bridging classroom math with real projects.

You will collaborate with staff and schools, promote programs, and help sustain an innovative, inclusive learning environment for diverse students in a dynamic nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in education, preferably working with 10-14 year olds.
  • General handiness and comfort in a workshop environment.
  • Working knowledge of social‑emotional Learning concepts and their application in an active setting.
  • Ability to adjust focus to highest‑priority tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the CBB curriculum to students in grades 5 to 8, in boat building teams of 6.
  • Develop new curriculum ideas and educational partners.
  • Supervise rowing lessons and contribute to program evaluation.
  • Assist with volunteer management and promotional events like the New England Boat Show.
  • Keep the shop organized, safe, and well‑equipped and maintain tools.
