Job Description

Are you an experienced, accomplished gymnastics coach with a desire to share your expertise with eager learners? If so, our opportunity as the Gymnastics Optional Coach could be right for you!

At the Darien Y, we have a top-notch gymnastics team and program, and we need your experience to maintain our tradition of excellence. With numerous regional and local honors, we aim to continue our success with talented coaches leading the team. We support your growth while you help our athletes develop theirs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 to 8 years coaching experience preferred, with a strong gymnastic background in competition and/or coaching at competitive levels.
• Expertise in Bars and Vault coaching is essential.
• Deep understanding of gymnastics fundamentals, progressions, and practice organization.
• Excellent communication and team-building skills.
• Ability to travel and work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, per team schedules.
• Positive teaching approach fostering a motivating, healthy, and productive environment.
• Ability to lift and move equipment, and to assist and spot children up to 150 pounds using proper techniques.

Essential Functions

As the Optional Coach, you will guide gymnasts of all levels, promote a fun and safe environment, and ensure adherence to USA Gymnastics and Darien Y policies. You will communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff, creating a positive training atmosphere that fosters growth and enthusiasm.

Your skills and friendly demeanor will contribute to positive public relations and uphold the Y’s commitment to quality gymnastics training.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday: 6pm - 9pm

Saturday: 10:30am - 1:30pm

Additional Duties

• Assess athletes and coordinate with the head coach on USA Gymnastics levels.
• Instruct classes, pre-team, and developmental team; attend competitions.
• Train athletes according to their potential and limitations.
• Spot skills and lift children and equipment up to 150 lbs.
• Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating sportsmanship and following all rules.
• Participate in training clinics and build relationships with participants and parents.
• Uphold the tradition and standards of the Darien Y Gymnastics Program.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Extended periods of activity, including climbing, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.
• Moderate noise level; acute hearing required.
• Lifting and moving children and equipment up to 150 lbs.
