Location: Bath YMCA - BATH, ME 04530

Salary Range: $15.50 - $16.50 per hour

Responsibilities

Responsible for coaching gymnastics in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Directors of the Bath Area Family YMCA, along with the mission and goals of the YMCA. This person will promote team building and camaraderie between team members, their parents and other team coaches. This person will also coach preschool, youth and pre-team classes.

Essential Functions
  • Co-plans and implements programs, leagues, camps, clinics and classes which may include but are not limited to preschool, school age and pre-team.
  • Works with coach to establish new program activities and expand programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Ensures proper building coverage is present for all program-related functions in accordance with program needs.
  • Co-establishes new program activities and expands programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Knows and follows the USA Gymnastics policies and procedures, including proper spotting techniques.
  • Recognizes individual differences and adjusts teaching strategies as needed for the success of all gymnastics.
  • Enforces specific rules and regulations that limit risk to participants.
  • Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
  • Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship‑building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Ensures a positive working and program environment emphasizing the YMCA’s areas of focus and character values.
  • Supervises the development and recruitment of volunteer staff and interns.
  • Always follows and enforces safety guidelines, ensuring a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, for all participants and staff. Ensures compliance with state and local regulations and that program standards are met.
  • Works cooperatively with the Facilities Department to ensure the cleanliness and safety of all program equipment and facility areas.
  • Provides leadership in the organization, preparation, and upkeep of program equipment.

Qualifications
  • Related instruction, coaching or past competitive experience in gymnastics, tumbling, cheering and/or dance.
  • Instructor for preschool, youth, and pre-team classes.
  • Practical knowledge of progressive skill building as related directly to instructional gymnastics and working knowledge of USA gymnastics.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Possesses strong leadership qualities and works as a team member.
  • A passion for supporting positive youth development through gymnastics.
  • Applicants must be 15 years or older.
Required Certifications
  • Completion of First Aid and CPR training within 60 days of hire.
Salary and Hours

Compensation commensurate with experience. Willing to train the right candidate. This is a part‑time position of up to 15 hours per week. Must be available after 4pm and on Saturday mornings. Expected hours: 3–15 per week. Pay: $15.00 – $16.00 per hour.
