Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a part-time gymnastics coach to join our Y team. The role focuses on creating a safe and encouraging environment for members and participants, with opportunities to guide progressive or competitive programs.

You will arrive early, prepare equipment, track progress, and communicate with parents while upholding YMCA standards and attire. The position emphasizes positive relationships with children and families in a nonprofit community setting.

Qualifications

• 21+ years of age, 3-5 years of experience in gymnastics setting.
• Some college or equivalent.
• USAG Safety Certification for Competitions preferred with strong knowledge of gymnastics competitions at national/state level.
• Strong communication skills and ability to meet participants at their level of experience.
• Enjoyment in working with children and maintaining positive relationships with parents.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, encouraging environment for learning YMCA programs.
• Arrive 15 minutes early, set up equipment, and be ready for class.
• Complete progress reports, communicate with parents, and document incidents.
• Assist in instruction of program skills and character development per YMCA standards.
• Supervise participants and actively participate in all program activities.
• Wear YMCA-appropriate attire and maintain professional appearance.
• Manage participant behavior with a collaborative approach involving supervision and parents.
• Apply positive support techniques to develop gymnast skills.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

What is needed for this job:

• 21+ years of age, 3-5 years of experience in gymnastics setting

• Have strong communication skills with desire to meet everyone at their level of experience
• Enjoyment from working with children and keeping positive relationships with their parents

The responsibilities we will trust you with:

• Provide a safe environment, encouraging, and supportive environment that allows members and participants to learn YMCA programs and assist in learning the specific progressive or competitive program
• Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled class and be prepared with equipment set up and ready to begin at scheduled time
• Evaluate program skills; complete progress reports for each session; complete communications for parents; complete incident reports; take attendance
• Assist in the instruction of program skills and character development objectives and techniques in accordance with YMCA standards
• Provide supervision to program participants and actively participate in all aspects of the program
• Wear proper attire in accordance with YMCA standards
• Manage participant behavior using collaborative approach with supervision and parents
• Follow approved positive support techniques to develop and refine gymnast's skills
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
