Job summary

Scheels in The Colony is seeking a Gun Customer Service Associate to greet customers, process transactions, and assist with firearm-related services. The role requires compliance with ATF laws and background checks and offers comprehensive benefits to employee-owners.

You will help promote Scheels Visa, handle returns for firearm purchases, and support Gun Room operations, ensuring a welcoming, secure shopping experience for every guest.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 months cashiering experience preferred.
• Able to comply with ATF firearm laws and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and offer friendly, personalized service.
• Engage customers and support the digital receipt program.
• Accurately scan items and ensure proper rung and payment.
• Bag purchases carefully and efficiently.
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and explain benefits.
• Close transactions with a courteous "thank you" to customers.
• Process firearm-related returns and exchanges and complete firearm background checks.
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping and maintain orderly displays.
• Adhere to all ATF laws and guidelines for firearm transactions.
• Ability to perform technology-based processes for firearm transactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Gun Customer Service associates are responsible for creating a welcoming environment by greeting customers, accurately processing transactions while following all ATF federal laws and guidelines. This role provides friendly, helpful service that ensures customers leave with a positive impression of Scheels.

This role requires all associates to be at least 21 years of age due to compliance requirements for processing firearms.

Responsibilities:

• Greet all customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store
• Enhance the customer experience by engaging in conversation while providing personalized service and consistently meeting the goals of the digital receipt program
• Accurately scan every item customers are purchasing, ensuring all merchandise is properly rung through and paid for before the customer leaves the store
• Treat merchandise with care, and bag purchases carefully and efficiently
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits
• End each transaction by saying “thank you” to every customer
• Process returns and exchanges for firearm purchases
• Complete firearm background checks
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping
• Ensure all ATF federal laws and guidelines are followed
• Ability to execute technology-based processes for firearm and/or suppressor transactions
• All other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and/or 1-3 months of cashiering experience

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
