Job summary

Scheels in Wauwatosa is hiring for a Gun Customer Service associate. The role greets customers, processes transactions, and ensures compliance with ATF laws. You will assist with firearm-related transactions and Gun Room upkeep, delivering friendly, accurate service.

Starting wage is $20/hour, with required evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts. A high school diploma or GED and 1–3 months cashiering experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide friendly service
• Engage customers to enhance their experience and promote the digital receipt program
• Scan items accurately and ensure proper rung and payment
• Bag purchases carefully and efficiently
• Promote Scheels Visa card and explain benefits
• Conclude transactions with a courteous thank-you
• Process firearm returns/exchanges and complete background checks
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping and ATF compliance
• Follow technology-based firearm transaction procedures and perform other duties

The full-time position will start in November/December of 2026. We will start hiring part-time positions in November of 2026.

Overview:

Gun Customer Service associates are responsible for creating a welcoming environment by greeting customers, accurately processing transactions while following all ATF federal laws and guidelines. This role provides friendly, helpful service that ensures customers leave with a positive impression of Scheels.

This role requires all associates to be at least 21 years of age due to compliance requirements for processing firearms.

Responsibilities:

• Greet all customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store
• Enhance the customer experience by engaging in conversation while providing personalized service and consistently meeting the goals of the digital receipt program
• Accurately scan every item customers are purchasing, ensuring all merchandise is properly rung through and paid for before the customer leaves the store
• Treat merchandise with care, and bag purchases carefully and efficiently
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits
• End each transaction by saying 'thank you' to every customer
• Process returns and exchanges for firearm purchases
• Complete firearm background checks
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping
• Ensure all ATF federal laws and guidelines are followed
• Ability to execute technology-based processes for firearm and/or suppressor transactions
• All other duties as assigned

Compensation:

Starting $20/Hour

Schedule Requirements:

This position does require some evenings, weekends and various holidays.

Education & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and/or 1-3 months of cashiering experience

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
