Job summary

Mendocino Railway in Fort Bragg, CA is seeking a part-time Guest Services Attendant for our Gift Shop to provide retail support to guests and customers. This fast-paced role requires energy, a proactive approach, and strong guest service skills to enhance the shopping experience.

The position involves handling POS transactions, assisting with store operations, and sharing information about the Skunk Train and local history. Weekend and holiday availability is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• 1+ years of customer service experience in a guest-facing role.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
• A positive attitude and excellent teamwork.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to inform guests.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
• Stock and maintain supplies and retail products.
• Maintain credit card receipts utilizing computerized POS.
• Understand the POS system or be trained on the technology.
• Provide concise information to guests about the Skunk Train, history and visitor services.
• Answer phone and emails providing guest assistance.
• Coordinate with other staff to ensure a great customer experience.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The world-famous Skunk Train is a standard gauge passenger railroad that was founded in 1885, and operates 40 miles between Fort Bragg and Willits, in Mendocino County, California.

We are currently looking for a part-time Guest Services Attendant in our Gift Shop to provide retail support to guests and customers. This is a fast-paced position, especially during tour stops, and the ideal candidate will be energetic, upbeat, and proactive in assisting guests with their shopping experience.

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service in very fast pace, high volume setting.
• Stock and maintain supplies and retail products.
• Maintain credit card receipts utilizing computerized point of sales (POS).
• Understand the POS system or ability to be trained on the technology.
• Provide concise information to guests about the Skunk Train, history and visitor services.
• Answer phone and emails providing guest with assistance.
• Coordinate with other staff members to ensure a great customer experience.
• Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Educational Requirements, and Preferred Skills

• Must be 18 years of age.
• 1+ years of customer service experience in a guest-facing role.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
• A positive attitude andexcellent teamwork.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to provide important informationto guests.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

• Must work well under pressure.
• Must be able to work weekends.
• Must be able to stand for longer than 8 hours and navigate stairs on a regular basis.
• Must be able to move 25+ pounds on an intermittent basis.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, reach, push, pull, twist, walk, crouch, and squat.
• Must be able to adhere to supervisory instruction and direction.
