Job summary

The University of Michigan is seeking a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) for LING 209 in the Winter 2027 term. The successful candidate will attend lectures and lead discussion sections, with 2 weekly office hours and ongoing collaboration with the teaching team.

Prior linguistics coursework and Canvas experience are required, and English proficiency evaluation may be needed for non-English undergraduate instruction.

Qualifications

• Enrolled graduate student in good standing at the University of Michigan.
• Must be available for Thursday afternoon and Friday section times.
• Must have previously taken courses in linguistics.
• Experience with Canvas LMS.
• If English instruction at undergraduate institution was not in English, must be evaluated by ELI and pass GSI-OET or waiver prior to GSI appointment.

Responsibilities

• Attend all lectures and scheduled discussion days for the course; verify your schedule against the course.
• Hold at least 2 office hours each week.
• Lead discussion sections and plan discussions as instructor.
• Grade assignments per lead faculty instruction.
• Meet weekly with the teaching team and respond promptly to emails.
• Additional items listed in fraction calculation form.
